Vintage Indian Papier Mache Pot
Description
Originally made as a practical storage vessel, this old Indian papier-mâché pot has become a decorative piece in its own right. Handmade from layers of paper-based material, its substantial form is surprisingly lightweight, with an aged ochre-brown surface decorated by hand with horses, floral motifs and black detailing. Years of use have left variations, marks and wear across the painted finish, giving each pot its individual character.
Now collected as an decorative Indian object, it works well on a sideboard, console or low table where the hand-painted detail can be appreciated. Style it alone or alongside timber, ceramics and other old pieces for a layered interior. As an original vintage piece, variations in colour, markings, wear and surface finish are part of its history and make each one unique.
